Why millets beat oats for Indian breakfasts

Walk down any supermarket cereal aisle and imported oats dominate the shelf. Yet the grains that actually suit Indian breakfasts — ragi, jowar and bajra — have been growing in our own soil for millennia.
Gram for gram, ragi carries nearly three times the calcium of oats, while bajra brings more iron and jowar more fibre. They digest slowly, keeping you full through a long morning without the mid-day crash.
Millets are also naturally gluten-free and grow with a fraction of the water rice or wheat demand. Switching your first meal of the day is the easiest single upgrade you can make.
Start simple: swap your oats bowl for millet muesli with cold milk, or soak millet flakes overnight with curd and fruit. Your gut — and your energy at 11am — will tell you the difference within a week.
